Day 3, as it happens: what we can expect tomorrow

The last day of the pool stage is underway at Modern Squash. The draw is not completely defined yet (see below) but we already have an idea of the ties which will be on tomorrow. As it happens …

Credit to Austria who made them work for it, but Malaysia secured the top spot in pool H. That means they will face the winner of the Scotland v Jamaica tie, which takes place at 3:30pm.

Rehman Adnan

Aqeel Rehman (in dark blue) gave everything he had but Adnan and Malaysia are through to the next round

Wales is also through to the next round, thanks to their win over Czech Republic in pool D. It is their first time in the last 16 since 2007, and they will have the privilege to play home favourites France tomorrow (probably at 7pm at Salle Vallier, to be confirmed).

Creed Svec

Peter Creed's win over Martin Svec sent Wales to the last 16

Finland, who were bronze medalists at home in 1991, came through a tough battle with Argentina in pool B to make the next stage. They will surely have no pressure tomorrow since they will face huge favourites, Egypt.

Tuominen Romiglio

For his ninth consecutive participation in the MWTC, Finland's Olli Tuominen will feature in the knockout stage

As expected, Spain beat Iraq 3-0 (pool E) on the glass court this afternoon. The Spaniards make the top 16 for only the second time in their history, after 1989 in Singapore. No doubt that they are aiming higher, and their campaign in the knockout stage will start with a clash against New Zealand.

Borja Golan

Iraq and Husham Al-Saadi gave everything they had but Spain are through to the next round

Scotland also got a comfortable win against Jamaica (pool G). They will have to overcome Malaysia tomorrow if they want to achieve their top 8 initial goal.

Clyne Binnie

Scotland finished second in pool G and will be getting ready for a clash against Malaysia tomorrow

Final result of the afternoon session was Canada holding their seeding with a 3-0 victory over Ireland (pool C). Sachvie and his teammates will be on against Australia in the last 16. In the evening session, USA and Switzerland secured their spots for the next round, after they beat South Africa and Pakistan, respectively. They will face Hong Kong and England.
